The Botanic Gardens and Fort Canning open a nine-day heritage festival, the Flower Dome goes free for under-12s, and how the childcare subsidy actually works.

## Deadlines in September

All good — no nationwide deadlines for September. Still worth a look at the Coparent app for the personal ones tied to your child's date of birth.

*On the horizon*

- 31 Dec — Childcare Leave — unused days lapse. Whatever is left resets on 1 Jan and does not carry over.

- 31 Dec — Unpaid Infant Care Leave — unused days lapse. Whatever is left resets on 1 Jan and does not carry over.

- 1 Jan — Student Care Fee Assistance — this version starts. Revised bands from 1 Jan 2027

## One thing, explained

**How does the childcare subsidy actually work — and why is the number on the bill different from the one on the poster?**

Every Singapore Citizen child at an ECDA-licensed childcare centre gets a Basic Subsidy, and it is paid to the centre, not to you: it comes off the monthly bill before you see it. For full-day childcare (18 months to 6 years) it is S$300 a month if the main applicant works at least 56 hours a month, and S$150 if not — with one exception: since 9 December 2024 a non-working main applicant in a household earning S$6,000 or less a month gets the full S$300.

On top of that sits an income-tested Additional Subsidy, and it is usually the larger of the two. The ceilings by gross monthly household income run from up to S$467 for households on S$3,000 or less, stepping down to up to S$80 at S$10,501–S$12,000; above S$12,000 there is none. They are ceilings, not promises: what you actually get is capped by your own centre's fee, which is why two families on the same income can see different numbers.

There is nothing to file for the Basic Subsidy — enrol, and the centre applies it. The Additional Subsidy is applied for through LifeSG, and it is worth doing in the same week you enrol so the reduced bill starts as early as it can.

Infant care (2 to 18 months) works the same way with different figures: S$600 a month Basic for a working main applicant, S$150 otherwise, and Additional Subsidy ceilings from up to S$710 down to up to S$40. The rate table ECDA publishes was last updated 18 November 2025.
